Passengers win in World Cup competition

When the World Cup Matches were announced, the first thing the airlines did was to raise their fares to nearby airports around those dates. This included Ryanair, easyJet and the other low cost airlines. Then in March, Lufthansa the German flag carrier which has been celebrating the World Cup by painting a football on the nose of its aircraft announced its "BetterFly" fares for 99 Euros return.
Nothing happened for a while, then Ryanair decided that they would offer 350, 000 seats for 33 euros. In a press release Ryanair claims that the Lufthansa 99 euro fares were an "own goal" and recording a score of Ryanair 1 Lufthansa 0.
I wonder if Ryanair would have offered these fares if Lufthansa hadn't brought in its "BetterFly" fares. Of course Lufthansa would probably not have brought in its low fares if it had not been for BA Connect being launched, but BA Connect would not be here if not for the low cost carriers such as Ryanair. If this is a game, then the clear winner at present is the passenger.

Vueling adds Barcelona <> Granada

GranadaVueling the low cost Spanish Airline is to connect Barcelona and Granada from 29 June 2006. This will enable a quick, cheap connection between two of Spain's most beautiful cities. Granada owes much to the period when the Moors occupied Spain. La Alhambra was built by the Moors and comprises a red fortress ringed with cypresses. Inside is the amazing Nasrid Palace with its exquisite gardens. The site was declareda UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984.
Another UNESCO World Heritage site can be found at El Albaicín, the old administrativee quarter of the city. Prior to the Moors it was occupied by the Iberians and the Romans. The streets and squares have some inspiring Moorish architecture.
There is plenty more to see in Granada from the Gothic cathedral or experiencing a Hammam (Arabic Bath) to shopping.
