Flybe to buy BA Connect
BA is to sell its BA Connect low cost subsidiary to flybe the Exeter based budget airline. The deal will make flybe the largest regional airline in Europe it will give flybe a total of 159 routes and 10 million passengers. The airline will have 70 aircraft by the end of next year.Flybe had embarked on a programme to upgrade its fleet to new fuel efficient aircraft with orders in place for Bombardier Q400 and Embraer 195 aircraft. It plans to replace the ageing BA Connect fleet with more efficient aircraft at the earliest opportunity.
BBC Radio this morning highlighted that job cuts in BA Connect’s 1900 staff were likely.
