New Gdansk <> Cork route for Wizz Air
Cork <> Gdansk is the latest route from Wizz Air. Starting on 15 December 2006 the airline will fly the route three time per week, bringing the total number of Wizz Air routes from the city to eight. Both locations are ports and have lots for visitors. Cork has plenty of places worthy of a visit including the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, the Cork Public Museum and St. Anne's Church with the famous Bells of Shandon. Others include the 17th century English Market Bishop Lucey Park, St. Francis Church, the South Mall and Cork City Gaol.
A little further afield you'll find the Cobh once named Queenstown following a vist by Queen Victoria. It was from here that over 6 million Irish emigrated to the New World. A visitor centre in the old railway station brings their story to life. Another destination for visitors to the area is the world famous Blarney Castle. Legend has it that kissing the Blarney Stone gives the kisser the gift of eloquence. You can tell that I haven't kissed it just by reading my posts.
Gdansk is a former Hanseatic League port with strong German influences having been part of the Prussian Empire. It is an industrial city but has some historic sites from the surviving buildings from the old town, to the Gdansk shipyard birthplace of Solidarity.
