EasyJet blocked on Italian domestic route

EasyJet who had to pull its proposed service to Corsica when the French Authorities intervened has run into similar difficulties in Italy. The UK based low fares airline was to fly Milan to / from Olbia, Sardinia but has been refused permission by ENAC (Ente Nazionale Aviazione Civile -– the Italian National Civil Aviation Authority.
ENAC ruled that Meridiana another low cost airline had sole rights to service the route under a Public Service Obligation (PSO). This ia a similar case to their Paris / Ajaccio route that easyJet had to pull.
EasyJet have referred the case to the courts.
It is good to see that the airline continues to strive for an open skies agreement across Europe.
